More about this cause

Imagine if every action you took had a potentially deadly consequence. Before you could eat or drink … play a sport or go out on a date … you had to first consider the effect it would have on your life. That is what Jenna, my daughter’s best friend, has lived with since she found out she has Juvenile Diabetes. Like millions of young people with JD, Jenna will never be able to be carefree or spontaneous, the way so many of us are without a thought. Several times a day, Jenna pricks her finger, checks her blood sugar, calculates when she should give herself an insulin shot — timing it so she can go to school or out with friends without feeling sick, dizzy or going into insulin shock or worse … a coma. Watching Jenna, I realize that this disease dictates every minute of her life.
But if you met her, you would not know that Jenna faces these life-threatening challenges. I am constantly amazed by the strength of her character and the gentleness of her heart. However, she must always live her life in terms of this inescapable disease.
What do I wish for Jenna? What I wish for every child: FREE TO BE … 24/7/365.
And so, guided by Jenna’s courage, I found my own way to help find a cure. As a metalworker and jeweler, I did what designers do: I created an exclusive bracelet inscribed with this most heartfelt wish. I donate 30% of all purchases directly to the the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Every dollar and every minute brings us closer to a cure. If you know someone with Juvenile Diabetes, wear a statement that puts the power of this wish into the world, while providing funds for a cure.
FREE TO BE … it’s the message we wish for every child.
